Charles Seal-Villafranca Elected President of the Arizona Board of Nursing Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facility Managers
January 17th, 2019Phoenix, AZ - Charles Seal-Villafranca, MSHA/HM, CDP, ALFM, Administrator and Executive Director of Encanto Palms Assisted Living in Phoenix, AZ announced today his election as the President of the Arizona State Board of Examiners of Nursing Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facility Managers (NCIA). The mission of the NCIA State Board is to protect the health, welfare, and safety of Arizona citizens who use the services of nursing care institution administrators and assisted living facility managers. The NCIA Board licenses nursing care institution administrators (nursing home administrators), certifies assisted living facility managers, investigates all complaints, and enforces the practice standards of the Administrators and Managers within the State of Arizona. Villafranca began his career in healthcare in 1994 and he has held various positions in senior living management at the managerial and director level. He is licensed as a Dementia Care Practitioner and is currently the Executive Director for Encanto Palms Assisted Living, a deficiency-free community in Phoenix, Arizona. Villafranca received a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of St. Francis and is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Capella University for Healthcare Administration. Villafranca was appointed by the Governor of Arizona to the State Board of Nursing Care Institution Administrators and Assisted Living Facilities Managers in 2016 and serves the State of Arizona with his knowledge and expertise in gerontological health care needs. “It is truly an honor and a privilege to be nominated and elected as the new president of the NCIA Board,” says Villafranca. “I look forward to serving the great State of Arizona and helping to ensure the highest quality of care for our most vulnerable population.” Villafranca enjoys working with seniors and is a strong advocate for their needs. He is a devoted husband and proud father of two sons. His professional affiliations include the American College of Healthcare Executives, American College of Healthcare Administrators, and the Arizona Geriatrics Society.
Windsor Gardens of the Valley Selected to Participate in CAHF Volunteer Engagement Project
November 28th, 2018North Hollywood, CA – Windsor Gardens Healthcare Center of the Valley (“Windsor Gardens”), announced today they were selected by the California Association of Health Facilities (CAHF) as only one of 20 facilities in California to participate in a new Volunteer Engagement Project. The California Department of Public Health awarded a grant of $700,000 to CAHF to develop a template for the creation and sustainment of volunteer programs in skilled nursing facilities. The CAHF Volunteer Engagement Project will provide a framework for facilities to engage their communities and create a successful and ongoing volunteer program. Beginning in July 2018, the project will span two and a half years and support the implementation of an intensive pilot volunteer program in 20 skilled nursing facilities in California. “The presence of a robust volunteer program in a skilled nursing center improves quality of life by providing companionship and individualized activities that are resident-driven,” said Amanda Davidson, volunteer engagement project manager. “The project will identify effective, positive, person-centered practices supported by volunteers and promote them in an idea guide as a resource,” she added. Windsor Gardens’ participation in the project will begin July 2020 and end December 2020. Two in-person site visits from CAHF staff will occur between those dates. “Volunteers offer important opportunities for social interaction with our residents,” says Nurit Ruber, Administrator at Windsor Gardens. “Activities that incorporate volunteers are an integral part of bringing the feeling of home to our care centers, and we are excited to have been accepted into the CAHF Volunteer Engagement Project.” The grant is funded from nursing home fines collected by the California Department of Public Health, Licensing and Certification Division and deposited in a federal Civil Monetary Penalty Fund. The comprehensive state-specific handbook will be available free to any of California’s 1,250 skilled nursing facilities wishing to implement a successful, sustainable volunteer program.
