Why - And How - Windsor Sets A Higher Standard
Quality patient care, dedication to patient satisfaction and rigorous attention to patient safety have always been hallmarks of the committment to higher standards at Windsor Healthcare.
The quality of our care is measured in patient satisfaction scores and by continuous monitoring of industry-defined "Key Indicators of Quality". As part of our ongoing Quality Management Program, the data for these measurements is recorded for each resident and tabulated monthly. This data is then compared to other facilities, both in California and nationwide.
Satisfaction is measured by surveying our residents and family members, as well as physicians, to monitor our performance in the following areas:
- Skilled Nursing Care
- Rehabiltation Care
- Admission and discharge services
- Activities and Social services
- Food quality and dining experience
- Customer service
UPDATE - WINTER 2008
Windsor Healthcare has set our corporate goals for quality to exceed both state and national averages. This year, the major focus of our review is to identify practices which can improve the quality of our residents' life.
To this end the focus will be on reducing physical restraints to below 5% in all of our centers. This is considerably lower than the current state average of 13.4%.
In order to achieve this goal, Windsor has been introducing new technologies and new staff protocols.
The most visible change is at bedside. These newly-designed electronic beds can be set very close to the floor, thus preventing serious injury if the resident falls from the bed when restraints are removed. Another important advance in "Quality of Care" is Windsor's use of subtle monitoring devices that can warn the staff when residents rise from a chair or attempt to get out of bed without assistance. Concurently, we have been educating facility staff regarding the optimal use of this new equipment. Families have also been involved in the planning of their loved ones' care to achieve this enhancement of the quality of the residents' life.
